CONTEXT · GEOGRAPHY
Hong Kong
Hong Kong has one of Asia's most established contemporary art markets, anchored by Art Basel Hong Kong and Art Central, with a gallery scene concentrated in Central, Sheung Wan, and Wong Chuk Hang. The city's position as a financial and cultural hub between East and West made it a natural base for artists engaging with both Western contemporary traditions and East Asian material cultures.
Peter Yuill arrived in Hong Kong in 2010 and spent more than a decade building a practice there. He moved from a graffiti and mural background into a gallery practice in geometric abstraction, completed major institutional and brand commissions, and built relationships with collectors and the institutional art world before relocating in 2024.
Galleries that showed or represented Yuill's work in Hong Kong: The Cat Street Gallery (2012-2014), Pearl Lam Galleries (2015), Gallery HZ (2020), Kong Art Space (2018, 2022), Young Soy Gallery (2022), VAIN Projects (2022), and Kong Art Space. He also participated in group exhibitions with Odds and Ends Gallery and the Hong Kong Arts Collective.
Yuill participated in Art Central Hong Kong (2023) and the Asia Contemporary Art Show (People's Prize, 2012, Grand Hyatt Hong Kong). He exhibited in The 14th Factory (Los Angeles, 2017), a major group exhibition organized by Simon Birch.
Corporate collections holding Yuill's work include The Wharf (Holdings), which acquired the work in 2018, and Jones Lang LaSalle, who commissioned a custom piece in 2019. Hospitality commissions include The Peninsula Hotels (2018) and The Parisian Macao (2012-2013), alongside three Swire Group projects.
